Z Energy is a modern energy company that plays an essential role in keeping Aotearoa New Zealand moving. Their vision was to maintain an efficient and secure operations environment to deliver on their commitment to customer experience.

Their goal was to work in partnership with a specialist cybersecurity company which acted as an extension of their internal teams to deliver flexibility, cost-effectiveness and operational visibility.

OUR APPROACH

DEFEND’s iCE (intelligent Cybersecurity Ecosystem) is an award-winning managed Security Operations service that provides a modular ecosystem which embeds, complements and strengthens existing capability. It delivers 24×7 real-time monitoring, correlation and expert analysis of potential malicious activity in a customer’s environment by detecting and alerting on valid threats.

We began with our threat workshop; this ensured that the service is setup to protect the most valuable assets from key threats. To provide value as early as possible, DEFEND’s Security Operations team performed an analysis of current state to capture priority areas, noting that more is not always better. This enabled DEFEND and Z Energy to identify cost saving and improvement initiatives prior to service onboarding.

By working together in partnership, DEFEND iCE was implemented seamlessly and continues to improve the cybersecurity posture for Z Energy.

Z ENERGY’S OUTCOME

By leveraging DEFEND iCE, Z Energy were able to reduce operational costs and leverage existing security investments while increasing cyber resilience. DEFEND’s blueprinted and effective deployment capability ensures that Z Energy’s data stays within their control, whilst still allowing quick and efficient identification of threats and incidents by DEFEND’s Security Operations team.
